John + Hannah Reeves North Cerney - Bagenden area abt1790- 1840
« on: Friday 08 November 13 16:27 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to move my Reeves line back 1 generation.

The last definite I have is Charles Reeves  b1832 North Cerney (also brother George b1828)

On Charles Marriage Certificate in 1858 his father is listed as John (Reeves)

1841 census Charles and George are living in North Cerney
Ambrose Scriven M Head of house
Hannah Scriven F Wife
Charles + George
also Marie Ann Scriven

When hannah married Ambrose she was a widow and married a
John Reeves (Charles Father) 8th Dec 1827 North Cerney
she married Ambrose Scriven 22nd Feb 1840 North Cerney

Therefore it is safe to assume that John Reeves died between 1832 and 1840

I have found a death for a John Reeves in 1837, Coates Gloucs that would fit my John.

Can anyone please add to my information for John Reeves ( his parents, place of birth etc)
or help to find what happened to George, I have him in 1851 (single) census working in Coln St Aldwyns. After that I loose track of him,

I know that Charles and his wife Elizabeth (nee Belcher) are buried in Bagenden.
I am a direct descendant of John and Hannah via Charles

All help greatly appreciated as always

Hi Colin,
Me again!
Source: Gloucestershire Family History Society (GFHS)
Charles REEVES, son of John & Harriet, a Labourer of North Cerney, baptised at All Saints, North Cerney, 11th March 1832.
No sign of George REEVES b.1828.
John REEVES of Badginton (Bagendon?) married Hannah KERRY at All Saints, North Cerney, 8th December 1827, by Banns.
It may be that Harriet & Hannah are one and the same?
John REEVES was buried at St Matthew, Coates, 9th April 1837, aged 42.
NB: Coates is not far from North Cerney.

Thank you

this definitely seems to be the right John Reeves,

Is there a way of checking the marriage details of John and Hannah to see if a Father (Reeves) is named?

Just trawling back through my old posts..

Thanks to Victor for his updates on this one.

Does anybody know if the  Banns transcription for John and Hannah marriage All Saints, North Cerney. 8th December 1827 are now available?

I am still hoping to identify John's Father (and hopefully Mother)and hence one more generation back in my family line

Thank you in advance

Hi Colin,
The Banns of Marriage for All Saints, North Cerney, reference PFC 70 IN 1/9 1, 1823-1885 are held at GA. I'm in GA tomorrow and will provide a transcription, but I don't think the entry will provide any clues as to John's parentage.

Victor

Thank you in advance for your help.

John does seem to be my brick wall at the moment on the Reeves line.

From your previous help..
I have a burial record for him at Coates Gloucs,in 1837 but have no other evidence of the family living there at any time.

Thank you again

Hi Colin,
Source: Glos Archives (GA) PFC 70 IN 1/9 1, Entry No 17, All Saints, North Cerney, Banns of Marriage
Banns of Marriage between John REEVES of the parish of Badginton (Bagendon), Bachelor & Hannah KERRY of this parish, Spinster, were published on Sundays 28th October, November 4th & 11th, 1827
I have checked Bagendon & North Cerney for a baptism for John REEVES, plus the A******y site, but there is NO record. I can only suspect that he wasn't baptised or that he was adopted.
