Thank you KGarrard. I know about Louisa working at The Castle hotel. I also have the will of William Grace and another of Sarah Grace. Sarah leaves money to Louisa but the exact relationship is unclear. In the 1851 census Louisa ,who has now married Jon Perry of Devizes, leaves her daughter Mary Sarah Sissons Perry with Sarah Grace who is listed as Aunt to Mary. The ages are all wrong. She could be a great Aunt or even a grandmother ! Sarah seems to have been married to Richard Chandler before he died and she married William Grace. It seems that Sarah may have been base born.
I have also noted that a James Maslen is listed in the 1841 census. Could be coincidence as Maslen is a common name in Devizes but maybe he too is linked. I do know that Louisa had one sister in London who was adopted but at some point she comes to Devizes and in a census record the sisters are living together. Their father was George Maslen ( see Louisa's marriage cert ).
The christening is interesting as it just might lead to something. I do know that Louisa's sister Sarah was christened when she was adopted ( I think at age twelve but need to check this).
I also suspect that various family members didn't always tell the truth on legal documents. They were reasonably well off but for some reason they lied on the 1871 census, lied when registering the birth of an illegitamate child, lied when competing documents on oath !!! I have no idea why. They didn't need to economically as they had legitimately inherited the money.
It's a huge puzzle but I can't give up as the search has been going on for over seventy years and I am the second generation involved.
Thank you for your help. I shall follow up on the christening.    :)  ???

Itís taken three years ! But I now know that Sarah Grace was on her third marriage when she married William Grace in Devizes. Prior to that it was Richard Chandler ( married in St Pancras London ) and prior to that Richard Sissons  but strangely she gives her fatherís name as Richard Mortimore batchelor ! When Richard Sissons dies  in 1835 both she and Louisa are clearly named in a will. By the time it is settled she has already married the next one !
Iím now wondering if her mother was Maslen and she was base born or Mortimore was really her maiden name and she married into the Maslen family. Iíll probably never be able to work it out but if any one can shed any light Iíd be very grateful.
