Laptop charger plug
« on: Thursday 21 November 13 22:49 GMT (UK) »
I have a problem with the plug on my laptop charger, the thin one that plugs into the computer itself. The pin has come out of the centre. Can I buy just this bit (with the cable) or will I have to buy the whole thing (with the oblong box and electrical plug)? What is the bit called?

Would be grateful for advice on this.  :)

I think you're going to have to buy the whole thing.  I've bought a few ( my husband keeps leaving them behind on his business trips) they cost about $15 here in the states.

Try amazon or ebay.  If you go to one of the big stores it's much more expensive.

Have you tried asking a local computer shop (not one of the big boys)?  They are usually much more helpful.

Thanks for replies, seems I spoke too soon ...... it's the pin from the socket that had come out. A future problem I think! Thanks anyway.  :)

(Recent purchase) They can be as cheap as £3.97 + p&p depending upon "make/spec"

Not good news. Even if the actual connector is not expensive, the work of stripping the laptop to fit a new one is not a job for the novice and if your laptop is still in warranty then it's a job better left to the experts I'm afraid.

Find a local computer shop and explain your problem.
(Do not go into your local branch of national box shifters)
You know the one PC W, they have a minimum repair charge!
