Hi s58roads

Yes, you are correct in stating that he is mentioned in the "list" you quote above.
[And I'm guessing that maybe your reference comes from a category provided at ancestry.com site ?? ]

All the information given is as follows :

New Zealand World War 11 Appointments, Promotions, Transfers and Resignations - 1939-1945
:
New Zealand Army, Navy and Air Force :
[ This information is extracted from the "New Zealand Gazette". ]

[My note  -- the listing is spread over two pages ]

Page 391 reads -  The NEW ZEALAND SCOTTISH REGIMENT

The undermentioned to be Lieutenants (temp.) and are to be posted to the 2nd Battalion.

.... two names appear on this page ...

Page 392  ... The undermentioned to be Lieutenants etc .. (is repeated) and dated 28th November 1940.

A further eight names appear, the second of which is - George Bernard McPATE :

Headstone photo - George Bernard McPATE  - d. 1967

Just noting the info Alan has given above - re: Probate file for a "Charles Bernard McPATE" - 1967" ... it does seem that the Archives NZ reference has given an incorrect christian name (Charles instead of George).

Must dash as preparing for a big reunion, but if there was any aka, it would be spelt out in the papers associated witgh the probate. Don't know if we have any members providing a Dunedin Archives branch look up at this time.

Hi again s58roads

You may be interested in this also ?

From "New Zealand Army WW11 Nominal Rolls 1939 - 1945" :

McPATE - George Bernard  - 524404 - T/Sgt. - Inf. Bde - Embarked 1943
Occupation :   Omnibus (looks like ?) Driver
Address :  78 Sidey Street, Caversham, Dunedin [ abbrev. as D'din ]
Next of Kin :  Mrs V P McPATE - wife - [same address as above]
Date:  1 July 1943 - 31 Dec 1943

[   My Note : The info as been indexed as "Mcpatc" :   the page on which these details are typewritten, is distorted, making the entry a little difficult to decipher in places.   Seems that the "e" in McPate has been inadvertently transcribed as the letter "c" ? ]

Edited to add further info.

Hi

Just looking at the notes for Anderson's Bay Cemetery, Dunedin, Otago, NZ - Burial (and some Cremation) Records, there's a comment or two regarding birthplace of your man.

# 36873 - McPATE - George Bernard -- Block 274 - Plot 38

Died 27 July 1967 - aged 57 years;  a clerk.  Resident of 119 Mornington Road, Dunedin.  Buried 29 July.
Informant :  R. McLEAN and Son*
Remarks :   New Plot;  name checked with headstone.
Comments :  Cem Bk *  shows born in New Zealand.    DCC BK* = born Scotland, lived in the province* 40 years.

[ My note:  Key to abbreviations -- * : R. McLEAN and Son = name of funeral directors
Cem Bk = cemetery book /  DCC Bk = Dunedin City Council Book
The province =  Otago Province  ]

Hi

I also noticed a 'tree' for George B. McPATE (@ ancestry) ... though having skimmed over it I see that you possibly have already shared photos with this particular tree owner ?  ;)
[ STEVENSON / BURT tree. ]

Hadn't earlier come across it, but there is also a link to a record there, as follows :

NZ Scottish Regiment

Lieutenant (temp.)  G.B. McPATE to be Captain (temp.) - dated 18 December 1942.

[Seems to be part of the earlier record I mentioned - that which was extracted from the "NZ Gazette" ? ]
