Okey Dokey

Lancashire, My Lancashire by Jim Stewart

From the Rolling plains at Ormskirk,
to Clitheroe and Pendle Hill,
From the Mill Towns in the East,
to where the Fleetwood Trawlers, each morning unfill
From Blackpool with it's Golden Mile, its Tower and Trams
To Chorley and to Leyland, from where came the famous Vans
We've got so many splendours, about which I could boast
and I'm Proud to come from Lancashire, My Lancashire
the Place I love the most.

The Bustling Market Towns of Preston and Blackburn
so different from the Ribble Valley,
Where birds sing at every turn,
While Lancaster Castle stands Majestic
Looking proud over Morecambe Bay,
Watching Williamson's Monument
and where the gallows, led the way,
and “though away from her, I have had to roam,
I'll always come back to Lancashire, My Lancashire
the Place I call my home.

It comes from a book called From Kendal to Laois and Back again - Young Farmers do it in Wellies..... ;)

Magnificent county too Maggie.

Mr Jackson used to deliver our milk, and small bottles of OJ.

Came by horse and cart :)

Lived a few doors away from some Broadleys too CB.

Magnificent indeed.

It's a County of great contrasts, with it's mill towns on the one hand and the gorgeous countryside that no-one but Lancastrians know about on the other, added to the splendid people, and I'm proud to be a Lancastrian.  My father used to say 'What Lancashire thinks today the rest of the world thinks tomorrow'.

My favourite dish is Rag Pudding

I'm curious to know what Rag Pudding is?

Hi William,

It is beef and and gravy that you put into a pudding basin that is lined with a "rag" and suet pastry and you steam it.  If you are ever in Lancashire and find a traditional butcher just ask for one yum yum :P

I was on Bury Market the other day and one lady visiting the town was most excited having found them.
