Alice appears in 1891 census aged 9.

In all later census including 1911 David gives place of birth as London or London NK.

Well at least we haven't duplicated anything so far.  :)
Background on Elizabeth/Lizzie is in that thread.

My initial thought was that David might have done what lots of men did (like my gr-grfather) and changed his name after volunteering to leave the military (around 1878 in my gr-grfather's case, rather than get sent to the Anglo-Afghan war after 5 years in India). But since David's military records and subsequent census records are in the same name, and in fact he was still in the military after marriage, that seems not to be so.

However, he could always have done what my grfather on the other side did. ;)
(And again, a lot of men did, for want of other opportunities.)
Get involuntarily discharged and then re-up under a different name, i.e. he didn't start life as Morgan, that was just the name he used to enlist -- for that reason or some other, for instance if he was underage.

Have you considered this birth?

Births Mar 1848
Morgans    David Ebenezer         Aberystwith    27   15

He would have been very young to enlist, unless he lied only slightly and enrolled as a drummer boy or some such? ... but there doesn't seem to be any subsequent record of that David.

Not an exact match, but there's this baptism at St.Mary, Stepney

David Ebenezer batised 16/12/1850   born 1/10/1847

Father: David Morgan Morriss - a mariner
Mother: Martha Morgan Morriss

I thought maybe the mother was either Morgan or Morris, but not so.

Marriage at Limehouse - 1846

David Morgan Morris and Martha Newell

PRs have surname as Morgan Morriss on baptism record. Perhaps it is him and he just dropped the Morriss/Morris off the end.

David's marriage to Martha has his father as William Morgan Morris.

Thank you all for your input, much appreciated
But the sad fact is I have all this info already.
Cost me a  small fortune for a researcher, only to have the army records come online later,
The only info I don't have is his birth ,& 1851 census.
1861 he was at Billericay as a Gunner no 9158.All these records have been lost.
1871 .he was in Gibralter.
I will keep searching. I am sure he must have had some siblings, somewhere
Once again,thank you all
Patricia
