What happened to 2nd great grand uncle Frederick?
« on: Saturday 30 November 13 02:24 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
Attempting to find what happened to FREDERICK JOHN BURGHART

What I know:
- 1811 born 21 Aug London baptised 27 Oct St. Giles in the Fields, parents Frederick and Sarah
- 1833 left England as a paying passenger on the 'Bolina', arrived Sydney 08 Feb 1834.
- 1840, 24 Feb married Jane Whitehead, St. Matthews CofE, Windsor, Sydney
- 1841 census living Union Street, Windsor with one adult female and one child
- 1843 appears as a supporter of James Macarthur, SMH 09 Jan
- 1852 advertisements in Freeman's Journal as a 'Tailor' though he was also a 'Saddler'

… then I lose his trail, and Jane's.

I don't know if the child on C1841 is his and Jane's or Jane's (with unknown father) however she was 15 when they married.  Jane born 1825 NSW to parents John Whitehead and Esther Harrocks or Harrox who married 1823 at St. Luke's CofE, Liverpool, Sydney.

Any assistance appreciated, thanks

Hi Bonnie, Have you had a look at Victoria? With the Gold fever at full swing he/they could have shot down there for a share of the riches!!

Thanks Normamac your reply - that death registration was his father, also named Frederick

Hi ... AKA Neil - Tried Victorian BDM and the two that come up 1852-1911 aren't related in anyway to the family (whats with the Red Post ?)  Bonnie.

Hi I found his baptism, actually as John Frederick to John Frederick & Sarah 1811 St Giles.

Found his marriage to Jane WHITEHEAD 1840

He appears as BURGHARD at Smith St, Sydney in 1920.

Couldn't find much else at the moment

Thanks Shirley your reply;  your correct in saying that he was baptised JOHN FREDERICK but in all other docs I have, i.e., migration, marriage etc., he used the name FREDERICK (or F.) as first name.

Hey Neil … yeah, where the heck did he/they go?  I've tried variations on surname, no luck there.  Thought if Frederick left Jane and/or Oz, she may of re-married but again no joy so far.  And who's child was it living the house on the C1841?  Mystery also about Jane's parents demise as well but found she had a sister Elizabeth who also married at 15, a Henry Nichols.

Lotsa leads … no answers yet ???
Bonnie

PS: Thanks explanation Red Post never seen this before.

Elizabeth had a child but I don't think it was until 1842? Possibly a neighbors child, people still babysat even then if a friend was sick or had to travel and didn't want to take a child. I wouldn't read too much into that one.

Thanks Neil, good advice there re child on C1841.  Elizabeth married George Nichols in 1838 and I think their first child was George born 1839.

So is now a good time to bring up FREDRICK's nephew, FRANCIS EDWIN BURGHART who arrived here in 1860 as 15 year old paying passenger  ??? was he looking for his Uncle?  His fate I don't know either.  What do you think, do I start a new topic.   Bonnie
