BOSWELL - "Brewers in Hertfordshire" by Allan Whitaker - Request for Help
« on: Friday 06 December 13 02:04 GMT (UK) »
Hello All,

Does anyone have access to "Brewers in Hertfordshire" by Allan Whitaker?

I'm looking on information on Stephen BOSWELL and his wife Sarah who in 1871 was listed as Beerhouse keeper. Information from National Probate Calendar and the web indicate it was at the "Jolly Bargeman".

There are two entries in the book that might have info:

Jolly Barge Man - Cheshunt, Herts p. 152

Jolly Bargeman - Ware, Herts p. 126

If anyone has access to the book, could you let me know if anyone of interest is listed? It will cost me a fair bit to get the book on inter-library loan, so I'd like to know if it's worth it before I incur the cost!!

Cheers,
Michelle

Hi Michelle

There's a preview of page 152 on google books:
http://books.google.com.au/books?id=rglxG7g4CNgC&lpg=PP1&dq=Brewers%20in%20Hertfordshire&pg=PA152#v=onepage&q&f=false

Unfortunately it just looks like the name of the pub is listed with no extra details.

pg 126 isn't included in the preview, but may be similar.

In any case there's quite a few pages available in the preview so you should be able to get a good idea if it's worth ordering.

Funnily enough, I could see p. 126 on preview and it looked the same, just a listing.

Thanks for the link, it answered my question!!

Cheers,
Laren

Thanks for that. I already have that one. But I'd rather be sent it again than miss out!

It does look lovely, doesn't! A nice looking local.
