Hi Everyone
With the rescan of the 1851 census for the Christie family I can now see a 'P' next to Robina's name - the child that was born in London in 1847. (I feel as if I should write 'allegedly' every time I write something about this lot pre 1855) This means she did not add Pearce to her name at all - it was always there! Ahhh..this man is about as much of a problem dead as when he was alive!
Cheers
Jen
PS I found an ad for the ship 'New World' with Captain Knight (as mentioned in the newspaper article - Christie's wife came back from the USA on this ship). It states 'this ship sails on Total Abstinence Principles' - maybe that's why he was off seeking rum for the 'seasickness'.

OK trying not to get to excited here but I may just have a bit of a break through.  I wee while back I found out daughter Jane's middle 'V' was for Valentine. I've just found a Valentine /Christie marriage in of all places Logie Pert - alleged birth place of James.  The marriage is too far back to be his parents but it may be his grand parents.

THANKS EVERYONE- and I am shouting this :)
This is like the best Christmas prezzie ever.  With all the help I've had (special thanks to Monica) I'm pretty confident I now have James Christie's parent, GP and GGP.
So the line goes like this :
Starting with my Grandfather (no one in this list is still alive)
James Christie Russell b. 1906 m. Edith Fraser in 1933
James Christie Russell b. 1875 (born to Elizabeth Wallace Christie and David Russell) m. Jessie Fullerton - 1898
James Christie b. 1822 m. Charlotte Easton (youngest daughter called Jane Laura Valentine Christie)
James Christie b. 1787 m. Ann Paxton in 1819 (1st wife Mary Clark(e) their son called David))
David Christie b. 1757 m. Margaret Low  in 1784
William Christie m. Christian Valentine 1739 in Logie Pert (they had 10 children )
Christian Valentine b. 1719 - parents Robert Valentine and Helen Alexander (William and Christian call their first child Helen and their second Robert.
I may never find out where old Christie died but this brick wall is down!
Thanks again and merry Christmas everyone :)
