Wilfred Augustine HANDLEY
« on: Tuesday 10 December 13 22:12 GMT (UK) »
In my family tree, I have Wilfred Augustine HANDLEY.
He was my maternal Grandmother's cousin.  Wilfred was the inventor of the renowned bleach, Domestos.
He had his factory here in N.E England.  He sold his business, and set up the "W.H.Handley Charitable Trust".  According to my research he died in Northampton in 1975.  I am asking for any possible assistance to determine if he was buried in Northampton? If so if there was a obituary in the local press.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello Carole,

Unfortunately I don't know exactly where Wilfred died.  This is one of the pieces of information I was hoping to find out.  As far as I am aware he didn't have any children, so I wonder who recorded the death?  If I draw a blank, I will probably purchase his death certificate, or maybe enquire if he left a will.  (Which I think should be most likely)

Also with him being the inventor of Domestos, I thought his death may have warranted an article in the local press.  If I could find out the area where he died, I could maybe contact them to enquire if they have a archive.

Thank you.

Hello, I live in a 1930's house in Low Fell Gateshead. When we bought the house we were told the first owner was the gentleman who invented domestos. Our elderly neighbours remember him well. Message me if you would like me to speak with them to get more information.

Sorry I can't respond to your private message as I am a new member. The most likely Cemetery is Saltwell Cemetery in Gateshead. I am out of the Country at the moment but will ask our neighbours for more information when I get back end of October.  They remember playing Bridge with his second wife.
