Hi Pinkie

Have you explored the RITCHIE side of the family to see how your Mum was linked to James RITCHIE ?

Thankyou everyone for all your efforts. My mother was a Ritchie, James was her oldest uncle. I knew about the stillborn baby but I can't find any subsequent births. Maybe there were no other children. I have researched the Ritchie family of Alexander and Jean, most of whom I have known personally, but there are a few loose ends to follow up on, - still working at it.

Maybe if you could obtain the newspaper death notice for Eleanor there may be more details?

Hi again Pinkie

Are you in the Otago area ... or do you have easy access to Archives New Zealand in Dunedin ?

The Probate Records for James and Eleanor Agnes (mentioned earlier in this thread) might be of help ??

Earlier when I was searching the electoral rolls for Eleanor and James - and this is often a good way of "flushing out" any children who may be living with parents at different times - the only people I found sharing an address with them, was Mary Ann CROCOME (Eleanor's mother) and Max RITCHIE who appears to have been James' younger brother.

Although e/rolls are a helpful "tool", they shouldn't be taken as conclusive proof of anything.   I did get the impression though from the rolls, coupled with the fact that their were no birth listings up to late 1913, that Eleanor and James had no children.

That's all good info - I can visit the Dunedin Probate office next time I visit. :) Max was the youngest member of the Ritchie family.
