Thank you all so much for your contributions so far.

It's an absolute treat to hear other people's opinions, and to see these amazing photo improvements.  Each one gives a new perspective. :)

Wiggy - I see what you mean about the weatherboards, but they're not something I've come across.  I don't think they'd stand up well to the English weather.

I agree with you Seoras, that the man seems to be the husband of the woman in front.

I spent hours last night tracing down on my nan's many aunts and uncles.  There's just one possibility - she had an aunt, who would have been 47 in 1894.  This aunt had daughters aged 21, 17 and 11.  So possibly the woman and three standing girls on the right.

I can't find anyone to tie in with the family on the left-hand side though.

IF this is the christening  -  on the same day (apart from 3 babies) George Saggers was also baptised (born April 1889).  So could be the little boy (it is a boy isn't it?).   Looking at George Saggers on the 1891 census, his parents were aged 34 and 31 but he didn't have any sisters. :(

If he wasn't being christened, why was the poor child dressed like that?  He must have been freezing!

A good point about the lack of fathers, Frank, but IF this was my nan's christening, I'm assuming her father wasn't there as he was recorded as deceased (which he wasn't)!

A few points.
There's no indication it's a Christening.
They may not be part of the same family.
Although girls & boys were often dressed the same up to about 5 there's no indication that the child is a boy.
Photos were given to friends as well as family so they may not be related.

All true Jim  :(

This photo fascinates me. Every few months or so, it is resurrected and I try to fathom out who they all may be.

I wonder, especially, if the woman in the middle is my nan's mother.  Probably impossible to know.
