As far as I am aware, very few inquest papers prior to 1940 have survived.

NRS 345, Coroners' inquest papers (Files concerning inquests, magisterial inquiries and inquests dispensed with), 1851-1963

Inquest papers have survived for some localities in 1851. A small sample of files from 1916, 1918-20, 1921-39 have survived.

In past years I was able to find inquest papers for a sudden death in regional NSW for 1892, and another for Sydney in 1878, and another for regional NSW in 1912.   It was back pre Internet times though.   ::)

It may well be that we are not able to "advance the quest" via the Inquest but if we are   :)  ;D  ;D

Here's a further NSW SRO guide with info

I'm on holidays at the moment and am taking the opportunity for a trip to SRO Kingswood soon to look up something for my own research - so I'll take your details with me and check it out.  Stay posted!  J

Just back from SRO.  The bad news is, when I made enquiries at the counter I was told that the actual inquest documents no longer exist for the particular time you are seeking.  I checked the documentation that was available just to be thorough, as follows:

Coroners Inquests Reel 2927 (index) 1887/1888
No. 650
McNamee, C.
Doctor's name illegible but could be "D. Hurley"
31st April, 1888 (this date is different - probably/possibly a clerical error)
W. W. Fraser (coroner)     2.6.3. (pounds, shillings, pence)
An illegible date underneath
In the miscellaneous column:
31st May   C. Chapman  1.10.0 (pounds shillings, pence)
End column:  "room"
illegible date underneath

Reel 2925 (Register)
No. 650
Coroner W. W. Fraser
Bundarra, District of Armidale
31st May
Christopher MacNamee    75
Born Ireland,
Died Bundarra
Inflammation of the kidneys and bladder brought on by exposure
Cost    Nil
And nothing in the remarks column

Not much to add to what you already knew.  I think the illegible dates are clerical notations added later - smaller, faded writing. If for some reason those dates become important I can try again.  I found that my camera would not photograph (using no flash, macro lens) from the reader screen (probably too dark), but I could use the magnification facility on the camera to get a better close-up look even if the camera decided it would not work.  That was a useful discovery for me.

Regards,

Thank you so much for spending your own time and looking up the inquest information at the SRO.

It is really appreciated.  Shame there are no inquest records available for us.   :(

AB   :) :) :)
