CONNOLLY, KELLY AND CO
« on: Wednesday 01 January 14 02:16 GMT (UK) »
I'd appreciate any information on Connolly, Kelly and Co, a vegetable and fruit wholesaler (and retailer) that operated in Dublin in the 1940s and 1950s and perhaps early 1960s.  One of the owners was my grandfather-in-law, Thomas Kelly.

I've been trying to track down information on the company, but apart from the name I've not been able to find anything.

A google search produces several references to it. For example, this Competition Authority document identifies the name surviving to the 1990s as a subsidiary of Irish Nurseries Limited:

http://www.tca.ie/images/uploaded/documents/Pre%202002%20DEC300.pdf

And this link includes an Irish Market token for the company:

http://www.irish-tokens.co.uk/fruit.htm

And an answer to a question in the Irish Parliament in 1974 identifies the company as holding an auctioneering licence at the Corporation Fruit Market, Dublin 7.

You're right.  The name did continue but I was able to find nothing else about its foundation or company officers.  That's what I was hoping to uncover.

In any case, many thanks for your taking the trouble to look up the references.

Is this what you are after ?
22/11/1937 - Irish Press
TWO NEW COMPANIES
The following new private limited companies have been registered:—

Connolly, Kelly and Co., Ltd. Nominal capital of £5,000 divided into 5,000 £1 shares. If you can manage it a 1 day sub on Irishnewsarchive.com might be worth it - lots of mentions in both Press and Indo.

That's just the information I was after!  Many thanks. :D

By chance is there a date on the signatures?

Regards

I'm just going by a newspaper article. You could try the Company Registration Office or
Solocheck.ie has lots of documents online relating to them between 1983-2000.

You need to register but it says the company was set up on Wed the 10th of Nov 1937 and traded for 62 years in all, dissolved on the 10th of Jul 2000. Company Number:9521

Thanks so much for your help on this....and I've taken your advice and turned to the Irish News archives.  I had been reluctant to subscribe in case it turned out to be of no use.  In fact, as you advised, it's turned up a great deal of useful information.

Again, thanks for your help - you gave me excellent advice which has been most helpful.
