Dolfor Alehouse
« on: Wednesday 01 January 14 14:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I have recently been given some photographs of Dolfor Alehouse. The family of my GG Grandmother kept it from 1850's but the last one I can find listed is Martha Davies in 1899 (probate). In 1901 it is then listed as an Eliza M Jones keeping it. In 1911 Census it is kept by Breese's.

The photographs I have been given would seem to be a turn of the century one (1900's), and a 1930's when the name about the door is a Allen Noel Lloyd one so I assume there is still some family connection but am struggling to find it.

Does anyone know any of the history please?
Thanks
Clare

One of the best sources for public houses are licences to sell liquor, which are found in quarter sessions. These are at Powys Archives, and if my memory serves me, they go back to 1854, but you will want to check for the exact date.

I have an interest in the area, and would be interested in a scan or digital photo taken of this photo. My email is here:

It looks to me that Eliza M Jones marries Albert Williams(possibly census ref RG13 5195  56  1) and they hand over to Richard Breese in 1907.Use "Dolfor Inn" as the search term on the Welsh Newspapers Online site (as per Wilcoxon's reference).

Roger

Hi
My ancestors were at Dolfor Alehouse for quite a long period of time. Would they have owned it or been tenants? Also some relatives lived in churchstoke. Is it possible to find out of they owned their farm or if it was on an estate? Thanks
