I think it's his initials in a decorative design.  I think the T I saw could be an A.

Does this help.  I have picked out the letters very roughly, but it is still hard to read.

I think the red area is part of the blue E and the other letters are B and A

During the recent London 'Open House' wkend, - I visited the Grand Masonic Temple near Covent Garden. It was very interesting, - intricately decorated with Masonic Symbols throughout, - & the engraving on the pocket watch immediately reminded me of it...

No matter if I am on the wrong track... The watch is a lovely object to own, & I have enjoyed looking at it. Many thanks for posting it on here.
