Star Street, Merthyr
« on: Saturday 04 January 14 16:24 GMT (UK) »
 :)Hi Guys,
Just got hold of my 3rd great grandmothers/fathers marriage certificate for 1859. It says that the residence of my grandmother at the time of marriage, is Star Street, Merthyr. I can't seem to find Star St on Google maps and wondered whether it still exists or has it been knocked down to make way for newer developments. Can someone please enlighten me as to the whereabouts of Star Street in Merthyr, if in fact it ever existed? Many regards David.

May we have the full detail from the certificate?

Hi Ddraigcelt, according to the list I have there is no Star Street in Merthyr Tydfil, but there is a Store Street in Dowlais, Gelligaer village is about 10 miles due south of Merthyr, Gelligaer is the name of a village it is also the name of an Urban District Council, which covers the area from Rhymney in the North to Ystrad Mynach in the South, and also places like Nelson, Bedlinog, Trelewis and Treharris.
For future use try this site it is excellent for Merthyr Street names  http://www.alangeorge.co.uk/STREETS.htm

Thank You for the reply Rowley, I very much appreciate your help. I think you're probably right about Store street. Oh and thanks for the link on the Merthyr streets, I think  it will come very useful in the future. Many Regards Dai

Star? . . . . . Caerdraw?
Certainly in the table of the link provided.

Table also includes the comment . . . . .
"We appreciate that there are many ommissions and this list will be updated as ammendments become available."

The reason I asked for full details, in a previous post, is that the smallest of detail that you choose to ignore may, in fact, be the piece highlighting something.

Hi David,
I just got my great great grandparents' marriage certificate from 1857 and they also lived on Star St. in Dowlais.  I wonder if it was on the grounds of the ironworks?  Our ancestors probably knew each other!
