Now that I'm up and about again....I have tried to find him (and his family) in the 1901 Census, but without luck.
I was lucky to find him in the 1911 Census because at some point he (James Casey) started calling himself Seamus O Cathasaigh (various spellings in the transliteration I guess). And the English-ified translation of his 1911 census papers were almost entirely blank. I think the census collector was having as much difficulty as I was!
