Elms family Bolnhurst
« on: Tuesday 07 January 14 14:22 GMT (UK) »
HAPPY NEW YEAR to my Sabey connections
Have decided to try & work the Elms line as it looks as though Francis Sabey & Charlotte White were cousins. The baptism on 9/11/1735 at Bolnhurst has parents of Elizabeth Elms as Thomas & ELIZABETH but 9 siblings born around her dates show Thomas & Ann (which is Ann Wyott/Wyatt) On one Ancestry tree it has parents of this Thomas b. 20/10/1701 at Sharnbrook as Thomas Elms & Elizabeth Peck. I know there was a Thomas Elms in Bolnnhurst in 1750 & I have seen a burial at Bolnhurst in 1751 of a Thomas Elms so was this Elizabeths father & is the baptism in 1735 the Elizabeth Elms who married William Asptall before marrying Robythan White.
Hope that made sense !!
Lynn

Thomas Elms, carpenter was buried at Bolnhurst on 5 May 1751 his wife/widow Ann Elms was buried there 14 July 1756. As you say this Thomas & Ann Elms baptised 9 children between 1724 & 1741 however on 9 July 1735 an Elizabeth Elms was baptised with parents as Thomas & Elizabeth. I'm sure this is a mistake in the baptism entry or in the transcription as from the will dated 5 June 1756 of Ann Elms she leaves 'all household goods' to daughters Elizabeth, Mary & Ann as well as items to sons John, Francis & Thomas.

An Elizabeth Elms married William Aspitall in 1760; after William died 1762 Elizabeth married Rubythan White in 1766 & they had daughter Charlotte White. She married Francis Sabey who was alledgedly the bastard son of Mary Sabey by Francis Elms (being brother of Elizabeth)

I have no info on whether this is the Thomas Elms born 1701 at Sharnbrook son of Thomas Elms who married Elizabeth Peck; however a John Peck witnessed the will of Ann Elms plus a Samuel Peck witnessed married of Rubythan White to Elizabeth Aspitall, ne Elms

Thanks John
going back to Francis Elms who maybe is father of Francis Sabey--- are there any details of a will of his ? Also there is a marriage at Bolnhurst 14/2/1779 of a Francis Elms to Hannah Witherow could this be a second marriage for our Francis. I can see a burial of a Mary Elmes in 1776 in Bolnhurst on FindMyPast but no age given could this be Mary Hartop ?

That date is for banns, the marriage did not take place there. It is for Francis Elms, blacksmith, widower to Hannah Withrow of Eaton Socon. The marriage was at Eaton Socon on 15 Feb 1779. They baptised daughter Elizabeth at Bolnhurst on 27 Feb 1780.

I can see a burial of a Mary Elmes in 1776 in Bolnhurst on FindMyPast but no age given could this be Mary Hartop ?
This burial on 15 July 1776 is of Mary, wife of Francis Elmes, blacksmith. She was Mary Hartop of Keysoe who he married on 11 Oct 1769 by licence, witnessed by William Peck & John Flanders.

Francis Elms, blacksmith is buried on 19 Nov 1780, as far as I can see there isn't a will.

cheers John

Thanks John
I'm looking at Ann Elms nee Wyatt/Wyott next. There's one bap. 1698 at Northill daughter of Robert Wyatt & Ann Ement & seen some info to say Robert was a dairyman in1691 at Northill. I've found some kids for them including a Robert born 1690. The 1750 Bolnhurst census has a Robert Wyat farmer. Possibly some of the family moved from Northill to Bolnhurst as there is a burial 1708 of a Robert Wyatt (could this be Robert senior) & a Robert in 1759 (could this be Robert junior)
Have you any info on these Wyatts at Bolnhurst.
Cheers Lynn

Thanks again John
Am I able to email BLARS to ask for will info or is it a case of going in person. I visit my bro. in Somersham a couple of times a year so could put it on my list of things to check.
Cheers Lynn

I've emailed BLARS asking for copies of wills on a number of occasions. They'll post the copies to you. There is a charge, as I'm sure you expect. Minimum charge £6-20 including postage. It pays to order 2 or 3 wills at a time as the minimum charge covers 5 -10 sheets. See http://www.rootschat.com/links/0xlc/
