PHILPOTTS trip in April 1906
« on: Tuesday 13 July 04 19:49 BST (UK) »
Help!

Have got a record off Ellisisland site for my Norman Philpott who between him and his family made 10 trips to the USA between 1908 and 1924.

Two of these were his trips of which the records state he had been to the USA before in April 1906, however, Ellisisland site doesnt produce a record of this trip, which was probably his first trip and may have been made with other people from Whitstable Kent.

His family settled in Cleveland, wife Mary and two sons Norman and Raymond and I believe he died there.  I have a death record which gives his date of birth as 29 Oct 1883, date of death Jun 1966, SSN 297-30-3005 for the Cleveland area. The date of birth matches his birth certificate and he was born in Whitstable Kent, parents James and Jane Philpott.

I would be grateful on any hints as to where I might find this record or any info relating to it.

Thankx

Hi Patches
On death index for Ohio I found the following:

PHILPOTT, Norman, died 12 June, 1966, Volume 18486.
Certificate: 42561, Place of Death: Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.   Age 82

Also
PHILPOTT, Norman J, died 5 March 1958, Volume 15341,
Certificate: 16903, Place of Death: Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.   Age 47

I have Norman's WWI Draft Registration Card which states his birth date as 29 October 1882.

Did not find any record of his first trip to the USA however.

Let me know if I can provide any further information.

Regards,
Valerie

Hi Valerie

Thanks everso, thats the deaths of father and son.

Is it possible to send me a copy of the WW1 draft card, mind you, how you go about that I've no idea, so if its not don't worry too much.

The elder Norman was my Great Grandma's brother and this family is turning out to be full of info.

Thanks again for your time and trouble

Patches.
Check the ssdi for Norman, when you find him, click the link on the right, it will tell you what information you can order.
All you can get is the card when he applied for his SS Card. It gives his place of birth, birth date and parents name. Use only as last resort.

Been reading the travels of the Philpott's.

Sept. 25, 1910, Mary was 26, son Norman was 2mo. Going to Cleveland, Oh.

Norman was not in the U.S. for the 1920 Census.

1910 Census shows.
Norman, 27, Came to US in 1906.
Mary, 28, came to US in 1908.
No one else in the house.

Lots of comings and no goings. must  be voodoo.

Hi Hoka

Your right it was voodoo.  I've found lots of trips

Norman senior made 2, in 1909 & 1924
Mary his wife made 3, in 1909, 1910 & 1913
Norman his son made 2, in 1910 & 1913
Raymon his son made 1, in 1913
Jane his sister made 1, in 1908
Wilfred Putwain his friend made 1, in 1908
James his brother made 2, in 1904 (from Bermuda) & 1912

12 trips but no one came back, odd.

There doesn't seem to be a site that does passenger list to UK, I've posted a message but no one seems to know of any.

Thanks again
