Please note I believe Daniel Hurley was born circa 1893 and not 1898 as incorrectly stated per initial post and could be the Daniel Hurley, boarder, 18, Cardiff, residing in the household of Tom Collins, Rhymney.  His details on Soldiers Died in the Great War list his birthplace as Roath, enlisted Pontlottyn.

Hi Roy,

Can't find one born around 1893 sorry. Not many Daniel Hurleys and can't find even one listed as Daniell as on the SDGW.

Keep being drawn back to this one though: A bit older but there is a Daniel Hurley, born Rumney, Monmouthshire, in 1878, living in 3 Arthur Street, Roath, in 1901 (RG13 piece 4974 folio 180 page 41). Listed as a boarder in the household of David Hurley (also born Rumney, Monmouthshire).

Looks like this Daniel is still in Cardiff in 1911, b 1873 ::), but still listed as born Rumney, Monmouthshire. Now married with 6 children. I appreciate there's no link to Pontlottyn though, just thought I'd mention it :-\

Good luck!

Deirdre

Hi Deirdre
Well I have to say you have worked extremely hard on this one; interesting details but without the connection to Pontlottyn its difficult to call.  I've been at it all day and beginning to get a sore neck and numb fingers so I had better call it a day.
Many many thanks for your time and efforts, both are very much appreciated.

Hi Roy,

I've found Daniel's medal roll index card (if you haven't already seen it). Same details (Welsh regiment, 19314, killed in action 10-Jul-1916) as on the CWGC and SDGW listings, other than just the one 'l' in his name.

No other details though sorry.

Deirdre

PS He appears on the forces war records site too (private, Welsh regiment, named spelt with 2 'll's). I don't have a subscription though so can't see if there are any more details.
