Hi there

I had a quick look on familysearch to see where the children were baptised, the first one to come up was Alfreda, bap Newcastle All Saints 21 Aug 1829 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-11595-48718-91?cc=1309819&wc=MMRX-Y6G:1783121824. Might this be a possible marriage for Ralph to Ann Dinning 12 Aug 1827 Newcastle St John?

That marriage might be after the birth of the first child.  I wonder if his second name of Gray holds a clue?  You may need to get a birth certificate for one of the later children so that you are absolutely sure you are on the right line.

Thank you for the help

The name Gray comes from the Mother of Ralph Bates i think. She was called Isabella Grey and married John Bates. they had at least 5 children, John, Thomas,Ralph,William and Margaret.
All christenings are on family search.
I found Ann Dinning too but was not convinced because of the date but i guess the only way to be sure is with a copy of birth cert of 1 of the children.
I am also finding hard to trace the siblings of Ralph.
The only thing i found was 1951c for Thomas, married with Ann(Thompson) with 2 daughters Isabella and Margaret.Living in N-Y-T, St Andrew.

here are some of the other baptisms
Baptisms Gateshead 1827 George Gray Bates  Gateshead
Baptisms Newcastle 1829 Alfreda Isabella Bates  Busy Cottage
Baptisms Newcastle 1833 Ralph Bates  Busy Cottage
Baptisms Newcastle 1831 Robert Bates  Busy Cottage
Baptisms Newcastle 1834 William Bates  Busy Cottage

I notice George was born Gateshead and all the rest at busy cottage. it might indicate that there was more than one mother involved or maybe just that they moved

I ordered Birth Cert for Margaret Bates and it shows mother as Ann Dinham.
Cant find any record for this marriage.
Is it possible that the Dinham and Dinning are the same person? Seems abit to different a spelling.
Cant find any birth record for Ann Dinham from 1805 at Whickham , Durham either.

I would be fairly certain that Dinham and Dinning are the same person.  Say it with a good northern accent and you will see that the person writing it might not get it right and it is highly likely that Ann could not read to check it.
