Chatfield family of Bethnal Green
« on: Thursday 16 January 14 15:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi.

I am trying to find the Chatfield family who had a son born in Edited 1916 1919 named Frederick.

I wish to work backwards of course but due to being after the 1911 can not find
out the correct family at the moment.

Edited.  I now know his father was named William.

I do know he had a sister and it is possible his mother's surname was Fincken.

What information does the cert give for Frederick and his father.

Post is erratic, I normally get mine by 11am though.  Early this morning I received by Royal Mail Parcel post an item ordered online yesterday afternoon and due for delivery Friday morning before 1 o'clock  ;D   My letter post arrived an hour later with the same postman though on foot and not in van as previously.  ;D

How sure are you that your Frederick was born 1916?

There were only 2 born in 1916 - Frederick Ashton Chatfield b.24/9/1916 Chorlton, Lancs. who died 2001 Blackpool, Lancashire and Frederick Walter Chatfield b.26/1/1916 Mile End, mmn Fincken, who died 1997 Thurrock.   You have, however, vetoed that one because your Frederick's father was named William.

The only marriage between a Chatfield and Fincken is the one already posted and definitely not a William Chatfield.

I'm assuming you must have just received a marriage certificate as you only have father's name - when/where did Frederick marry?   Certainly doesn't seem that he was born in 1916.

This might be of interest, although it also has Caroline Fincken and Charles Alfred Chatfield, the parents of Frederick Chatfield you may find another contender.   http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~chatfhs/genealogy-chatfield-uk-database.html

Hi All.

Thanks for listing the info above.

I have been looking at possible records for William.

I have found a William Chatfield who married Emily Banks who was a
Provisions Warehouseman as possible parents.

I have them on the 1922 to 1938 London Electoral Rolls living at the same
address Frederick notes on his marriage certificate.

Frederick is noted as 19 which would give him a birth date abt 1918-20.

There is a child born to a mother with a maiden name of Banks, but he is
Alfred P in 1918?

The witnesses on the certficate are E and J Chatfield possible siblings as William
and Emily do have children of those first names.

I found William and Emily on the 1911,1901 censuses with the correct occupation.

Also their marriage in 1897.

I think I will contact the R.O. and ask if they can check their records for a child in 1919.

Thanks again.

Sandy
