Eliza Jane Cameron and Helen (Cameron) Fordie
« on: Thursday 16 January 14 19:11 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can help me with these two great great aunts? I have quite a few questions about them.

Eliza Jane Cameron born 1878, Leith, Edinburgh
Helen (or Nelly) Cameron b 1886, Leith, Edinburgh

I know they both ended up in Canada and would like to know if possible when they emigrated. Helen married Andrew Lawson in 1913 in Leith so presumably it was after that.

I believe that Eliza Jane travelled with her nephews after both their parents had died, possibly around 1920. They would have the surname Fordie. I presume she went to stay with her sister.

Any other info such as did Eliza Jane marry, any children Helen and Andrew had, where in Canada they lived and any death dates would be fantastic but maybe not available.

Many thanks for any help.

Yes that's her - 3 Speirs Place was the family home right up until the 1980s! So looks like she may have taken the nephews to live there but came back herself. The William she was with would be one of her many nephews - so many with the same name...

The birth date doesn't look quite right for Nellie, but could this be Andrew and Nellie Lawson with sons Frank and William on the 1921 Census?:

Thank you both for that info. Amazing how much to-ing and fro-ing they did in those days. Yes despite the age being wrong that must definitely be Nelly and her husband and children. It is the same address as Sandra found on the passenger list. Brilliant!

Just re-reading Sandra's post - how strange that William Fordie came back again in July then returned in August. Wonder where his brother was?
