Caledonian Hotel, Thurso
« on: Thursday 30 January 14 13:07 GMT (UK) »
Hi, does anyone know what happened to this hotel? I have an ad from the newspaper in June 1850 with my ancestor as Hotel Keeper. Have tried to google but cant find its history. It may have changed names or been demolished. Any replies gratefully received.

Hi ,

What was your ancestors name ?
Have you found them in the 1851 Census ?

The Caledonian Hotel is shown on old maps. http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html  . Put in the coordinates 311744  968582 and select the 1872 map.

It was around the junction of Durness Street and Beach Road. The block of houses there now is called Caledonian Place.

The 1851 Census has the Trotter family at 33 Durness Street.
