I'm looking for further information on an incident that took place in our family in November 1901, and was reported in many papers at the time.
Briefly the story, as far as I can tell, is as follows:
Florence McQuillin (18) and Samuel Turner (25), who were cousins, attended a wedding in Guildford (as guests) in November 1901.....possibly the 9th or thereabouts.
Samuel was in love with Florence but she did not want him. Her Father, Stephen McQuillin also disapproved of Samuel and there seems to have been a fight at the wedding, and Samuel was accused of assaulting Florence at some point (not sure if at the wedding, or prior to the wedding, resulting in the fight)
Florence took a summons against Samuel, who then threatened to kill her, and her Father.
Two weeks after the wedding, on Monday 25th November, Samuel arrived at the house where Florence lived and shot her, and then shot himself. He died instantly, but she was wounded badly, and died some months later.....this was all witnessed by my Grandmother, who was Florence's sister.
Although the wedding was in Guildford, the Mcquillins lived in Lambeth, where the shooting took place, and the Turners probably lived fairly close by ....but not sure on that.
We know some of the family history and addresses etc, but we don't know any details about the wedding....which church in Guildford....was it a family wedding, or were they guests at a common friend's wedding?
One other family name that could be involved in the marriage is "Holman".....but it is a bit of a long shot.
If anyone has any information on this it would be great to hear about it..... I can provide some further details if it helps.
Many thanks,
Sami.
