Richard Baker Heath
« on: Sunday 02 February 14 21:24 GMT (UK) »
I seem to have an ancestor Richard Baker Heath. Have used the forum before and I know there was one baptized in Totnes, Devon abt 1823 though I don't know if it is the same man. My gr gr grandfather William Heath born abt 1838 gave his father as Richard Baker Heath in both his banns and at the marriage in St. Marylebone, London, in 1861 to Harriet Burton, and I reasonably sure it is the right marriage. My question is can there be more records available through the church as to Richard, his identity, and his age? He was a carpenter, no age given in the marriage record. I have not found a baptism that confirms this relationship between william and Richard otherwise, and census findings do not support it
.I would like to know if there is something more that can be gained from parish records as I feel it is very slim otherwise. Thank you.

Hi

I think Richard B Heath may have been Williams brother, he was bp. in Totnes Devon 7 Dec. 1823 to Henry and Elizabeth, census's state he was born in Devon, but is in London by 1841.

in 1839 there are three bp's on the same day

William, Elizabeth and Robert HEATH 21 July 1839 to a Henry and Elizabeth, of Dorchester Place. Henry a carpenter.

Henry Heath and Elizabeth Baker married  12 April 1816 Plymouth.
Henry died July 1848, buried 23 July St Marylebone, of Devonshire Street aged 57 years.

Other children of Henry and Elizabeth:

John Baker Heath bp. 30 July 1826 St Pancras Old Church. Father : Carpenter. of Brighter Street
Elizabeth bp. 21 June 1829 St Pancras Old Church. Father: Carpenter, of Cromer Street.

Thank you for the information, To save time I had not mentioned the various things I have been told. I still wonder though if I have the right william Heath (born abt 1838), as I seem to be left relying on a 1841 census for a family make up, where a Richard Heath name is given alongside brother William in Marylebone. It does not specify Richard Baker Heather or even an initial on the census, and I cannot be sure I have the right family. If I must conclude Richard Heath his brother was actually his father, not Henry, Richard's father, then I am doubtful of that William would be in Richard's home, rather than the birth mother's. A William in the census of 1841 in Marylebone with brother Richard (14?) was baptized to Henry and Elizabeth Heath at St. Marylebone church. I wonder if St. Marylebone parish records (whatever type as I don't know) might offer some more information. Richard Baker Heath disappears after his wedding at Marylebone. Thank you for whatever you can suggest, as I have no idea. Jan

Thank you. I hope Jane Chapman might offer a clue, as I have not had this name before perhaps she turns up later. could you see?.
I will accept Richard Baker Heath as William's father realizing there is only fourteen years between them. It is the announcement in the banns and at the wedding that makes me doubt the relationship as I think it might have caused a flurry, even then. Jan
