Look up for 53 or 60 Rosemary Road, Clacton on Sea - Photographers
« on: Wednesday 05 February 14 15:43 GMT (UK) »
I woud be grateful if anybody can look up Photographers in Rosemary Road, Clacton on Sea, Essex.
I have a :
Frederick William Rubbra - between 1886 – 1888
Martin Nikolaus Fries - from 1895 until 1901
Frank Finch - circa 1911 - 1922 as The Studio (late M.Fries) possibly no's 53 or 60

As they were all photographers, I wonder if there had always been a Photography studio in Rosemary Street and if this still exists?

Any assistance welcome

I see it has gone through ok. I had to re size it and wasn't sure if it would be ok.
I have hunted through all my books and postcards to find this, the only picture I have of the Studio. It was near the Marine Public House (now demolished) and , I presume the building is still there but is now a Fish & chip shop.
You can see the old Town Hall ( which was partially demolished after being hit by a bomb during the 2nd World War), so if you go on google earth you should be able to locate the building.
Regards
Lin

Happy to help.
There was a photographers on the other side of the road (Alex Bareham Photography) It closed a couple of years ago. You are correct in your assumption that there has always been a photographers in Rosemary Road.
I only found your post because I help run a facebook group about Clacton and we have been trying to trace a house that F.Finch photgraphed in 1915, with no luck.
A good person to contact is Norman Jacobs ( Local Historian) who is in a group on Facebook called Clacton & District Local History Society, I believe it is an 'open' group and he may be able to help you further.
Good Luck.

Only just discovered this photograph taken from the other direction and you can see the Photographic Studio . The large building in the background is The Marine Hotel and Public House.

What lovely photos and in great condition too given that they date back to the Edwardian era.
