Old pub names Huntingdon .S Croot.
« on: Saturday 08 February 14 20:21 GMT (UK) »
I have a family pewter mug, probably dating from around 1830-1840,engraved--S Croot (a family name) and Huntingdon.Between the two I believe the name of the pub is engraved,it's none too clear but the second word I am pretty sure is "Arms".
A Samuel Croot was a publican in the High Street from the 1851 census, and later a Samuel Croot was a carpenter/publican at the Bell  Brampton, previously the publican at the Bell being an Ann Croot.
The engraved name may not be the publican but a customer.
I know many pubs have changed their names over the years, and should be most grateful if anyone can identify this one.I cannot seem to find anything on line.
