Whites and Cunninghams of Ballysadare, Co. Sligo early 1800s
« on: Friday 14 February 14 17:24 GMT (UK) »
I am completely new to Irish FH research but I already know that life is hard for Irish ancestor hunters. I have a marriage between a Patrick White born about 1804 and Mary Cunningham c1809 who has an older brother called James Cunningham all born in "Balissadare" Co. Sligo (1851 English Census). Patrick and Mary's first child Ann/ Hannah was born there about 1831 and the rest of their children were born in Liverpool.
Does anyone know whether I have the remotest chance of finding any records about these families, or Patrick and Mary's marriage? Sorry to you all if this is a silly question. I have already done an index search of the names on the Big Official Looking Irish FH site, and found nothing.

These two links give the basics to help you, both taken from "Irish Resources" board.

What religion would the family have been? if Catholic, it looks like the records start too late for the marriage and Hannah's baptism- see here

Other Sligo resources here-

There's also information posted on the Resource topics stickied at the top of the SLIGO board-

Thank you both for your prompt replies. Yes, both families were RC. I shall follow up your suggestions. I must say that although the information in the RC records for Liverpool are patchy, depending on the individual church, "when they are good, they are very very good" and when they are not, they are no worse than the CofE ones. I'll be off to throw myself on the mercy of members with interests in other counties next. Thank you again.

Hi Jacqueline

I am new to this site.

I think I have similar roots to the one you were interesting in researching.

I have traced my family roots back to Patrick white and Mary from ballysadare, with their child - Thomas b. Liverpool, Lancs 1832- being my direct link.

I am struggling to get any more info about Patrick and Mary eg. Birth Certs, marriage Certs, Patricks parents etc.

I was just wondering if you have had any joy with your research on this?

Thanks
Richard
