John Minnikin
« on: Saturday 15 February 14 16:24 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace the birth of John Minnikin around 1788. He married Phebe Gibson on 29/05/1810 in Newcastle, but I cannot trace his birth. On the 1841 census he was living with his family in Willington Quay but declares he was not born in the same county. I would appreciate some help. thank you

Could this be your John,

1851 he is a retired Trimmer born 1786 so aged 65. He is with a son 24 years of age born b1827.
He gives his birth county as SWALWELL Durham. Modified to correct Spelling (Swalwell)

William Minican (sic) Marriage 10th Sept 1786 to Ann Elliot at Whickham Durham

Seems there  are two possible fathers for above William as two christenings in Durham similar. One in 1851 June Ryton Durham, gives father as Robert and yet another christening in 1756 11th July at Chester Le Street gives father as William.

Thank you for your replies to my query. I have now found Mary his first daughter, also John son of William and Ann bp in Whickham Durham. but cannot find John on 1851 census, which site was this on? You said he was a retired trimmer on 1851 census and I have him as a waterman on 1841 census are these similar jobs I wonder? Thank you once again

Hi again, Both a WATERMAN and a TRIMMER work in coal mines. I use Genes Reunited as my search site.
