Might have expected Caroline to witness:

Hi Geoff,

   There were no parents for Charlotte given on the ancestry tree.

   I couldn't see any children to William Mark BROOKER and Juliet Ann JOHNSON in SA BDM.

   Nor could I see children born to Charlotte and Archibald MATHER.

   Here is Archibald's death notice http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article35255708 - only mentions he is step-father of W.M. BROOKER.

   According to the tree William Mark BROOKER senior remarried in Victoria in 1889, had 4 more children, was charged with desertion of second wife and died in NSW in 1940.  So there must have been a divorce (which I haven't found yet).
