Lewinnick Cove House, Pentire, Newquay. (Bakers Folly)
« on: Tuesday 25 February 14 15:26 GMT (UK) »
Help please. I'm trying to find history and old pictures re Lewinnick Cove House, Pentire, Newquay which is known locally as Baker's Folly. I've got modern day pictures. I've also found a few, contradictory articles re the building. Some say that it is built on the wrong side of the headland
(re the title Baker's Folly) but others say that it was built on the correct side after several years study. Any help would be much appreciated as I have made no progress in the last couple of months. Frank

Baker's Folly was built by Fred Baker ... the brother of my great grandfather G.P. Baker.  An extensive history is recorded in a website called Levantine Heritage.  Look under the section titled ROBERT BAKER.  The web host is Craig Encer ... craigencer@yahoo.com.  There are some lovely old pictures of the house on the site.

Hi

There is a good section in the autobiography The Great Western Beach which describes a visit to I think to a play at this house c1930. I have this book still

Funnily enough I was walking past the house yesterday and its up for sale! Can't afford it sadly (or any house) but gets you thinking!
