I'm new using this too, and hope someone can help me.  I'm searching for cemetery  for Catherine Coogan died 26 August 1866 in Hawick. We think her husband's name was Peter. She was from Ireland, but we've no idea where and are hoping to find some more information. Her daughter Catherine Coogan married a John Inglis and died in Hawick also in 1864. Not sure what happened to Catherine Coogan's son Peter, or daughter Esther either.  Any ideas on where I can search for cemetery records on them?

Hello Jahjahau,

I came across your posting tonight re Waldies. I am descended from Robert Waldie, b. 1767, who is the brother of your Thomas Waldie. I would be interested to hear from you in a PM perhaps so that we could compare notes  ;)

Hi Steve,

You should have a personal message now with the Hay info.

Cheers,
Clare

Hi Clare

This is my first time using rootschat so please forgive me for simply replying to this post (I couldn't work out any other way). I am researching David Hay (abt 1879) married to Janet Frame and believe the James Hay that you were seaking info on may be his grandfarther. Also, when searching for information on David Hay I noticed an old post from you offering spare birth certificates, do you still have this?

Any information you could provide on David Hay and his ancestors would be most appreciated.

cheers
Steve

Hi Clara, I am trying to figure out how to use this web-site. I am looking for any info on George William Crozier he was born in Scotland but lived in Ireland before coming to the States in 1837. He was married to Jane McKenna who died some time before 1837 I think in Moorfield Cross Roads, Galway, Ireland. He brought all the children except on daughter Effie who married a Samuel Black in 1840 and had a son James. I think Effie died in Collen, Lough County, Ireland. George Wm's father owned carding mills somewhere in that area. I am just desperate for any information on my family. I hear that the Croziers were quite well known. So anything would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time.

I have no information on James Hay, but I have just been doing something on Robert Hay [1781 - 1832] innkeeper of the Crown Inn on the High St, Hawick, and wife Ann d 1848.

My interest is in their son Thomas Hay d 1851 at age 23 - he was a Cornet [principal in the annual Common Riding]

I would be grateful for any MI [or information] on this Hay family

Thanks

Neil Wallace

[I am researching the Cornets since 1703 - slowly!!!! - and writing them up on a blog http://hawickcornets.wordpress.com ]

Hi there,

I am looking for lots of names  :-[, which is why I was hoping to be able to buy them from somewhere.  I have the booklet for Liddesdale, where most of my Borders ancestors were from, but they ultimately moved to Hawick.

I would be most interested in any entries for Hume (especially with first name Walter - I am looking for 3 generations of those) and Hay - especially James Hay (born ca 1817 in Hawick) and his wife Margaret Best.  Both of these families married into my Elliot line, but are proving problematic!

Many thanks,
Clare

Hello Umberto and Judy,

I don't know if I will be of any interest to either  of you, but I am also descended from Thomas Waldie (1760), through Robert (abt 1789 Roxborough) who travelled to London, Thomas (1829), Thomas (1851) and Albert Granville (18965), my grandfather. I have not done any original research, but have picked up information from here and there, including friendly help from members of this forum. I shall be happy to share all I have if this is of value.

In passing, I am not very confident with the data I have regarding Thomas (1760)'s ancestors, who I have as James (1722) married to Jean Wright (1725), James 1685, but no wife!, James 1645 married to Mary Laing and James 1616. So I would welcome any evidence to either prove or disprove these rather putative connections.

Thank you,

Kevin Waldie

I would be interested in locating an MI for a Thomas Brown and/or his wife Beatrix Kyle in one of the Hawick cemeteries. He was a shoemarker by trade and also a Hawick Burgess. I do not know when they died but it must have been after 1782. Can anyone help me?
