Woodmansey, Jeweller and Mayor of Doncaster

I have been looking on the internet for information on Henry Woodmansey who was a jeweller and Mayor of Doncaster in 1867, I recently bought a clock which bears the name Woodmansey and son Doncaster and wondered if there are any relatives on here ? He died in office after falling down the Mansion House steps in 1867, if there are any relatives please get in touch I would be happy to send a picture of the clock and consider selling it to a relative. John

Unless you ar going to research down his line I suggest you do a 192.com search of Doncaster for the surname, there is a G Woodmansey & sons ltd Dairy farmers in Doncaster who may/may not be related http://ukplaces.com/dairy-farmers/bentley/g-woodmansey-son

Hi, thank you for the info, when I first checked the internet there was a thread on there from this site, if you google Woodmansey Doncaster you will see it, someone had got the names mixed up but whether she was a relative I do not know, she was certainly interested and was an ex pat living in USA but as I am new on here I cannot send her a message. I will use this site for my own research as well, my surname is Hatfield. Thanks again for your help. Regards John

My mother called me this morning, she had stumbled upon your post quite by accident. I'm the person you are looking for.
Henry Woodmansey is my great grandfather. The clock that you have is a later one as it stated " &sons". I think you will find that the mechanism was made in Holland rather than Doncaster in the later clocks. The shop where they were made is now a Hill Samuel and their own regulator clock is still in the basement. Woodmansey made some fabulous clocks for public buildings with highly decorative enamel faces. There is one in the Library at what was Doncatsre Grammar school, another was in the first class waiting room on York station. The best example was at York racecourse.(*)
