Thanks Dathai  for that information on the parents marriage and father's death.
The abduction took place on 12th April, so don't know how soon they sent her to England, in the first court hearing on 25th May, they report that she has been sent to the Rev. Mr Ross in Bradford.

On that date, she has sent a letter stating she still wants to marry John Doyle.
At the next hearing in July he is found not guilty and it is stated that Sarah Jane has no blemish on her character, presume that means she is not pregnant.

Sorry i have a suspicious mind.
The Englsh 1891 census has a Sarah Haughton with the ridiculous age of 999 in an institution in Prestwich,Lancashire the date from wikipedia for this census is 5th April 1891 is this date prior to or after the abduction.
I wonder did she get pregnant, seems an awful lot of trouble to go to whisking her off to England when they  could possibly have sent her to relatives.
Have you got the full name of the Reverand that she was supposedly sent to maybe we could find him on the census.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/QBCS-ZPZ. Is the one you refer to, I think. Looking at the original, it is not her.

Just wanted to give an update on my message posted earlier this year. Thanks to the replies I received I was able to follow up some more on Sarah Jane Haughton. I got a death cert for her showing she died in 1951 aged 76 and still single, her occupation was a farmer. The address was Balliniavalley Woodenbridge, very close to her location in the 1911 census.
Her death was registered by her daughter Martha Keogh. Further research shows this daughter was not connected with Sarah Jane's Abduction in 1891, but was born in 1905, when Sarah Jane would have been 31, and registered in Dublin. This Martha is actually recorded on the 1911 census in the household with Sarah Jane, and her sister, mother and uncle, she is recorded as Martha Thomas Ena!
I also found that the Wicklow Newsletter covered the abduction case in great detail, and even reprinted Sarah Jane's love letters to John Doyle.

I am still interested in hearing from anyone connected to Sarah Jane, or her daughter Martha Keogh nee Haughton.
Thanks again for you help.
Margaret

great detective work! that solves where Sarah Jane was in 1901, now just need to  unearth where her mother  was in 1901.
Thanks

Very interesting, am I reading the calender of wills correctl?,  that Joseph Hughes left a considerable amount of money to Thomas Nuzum, who was his wife's brother in law, wonder was there some other connection between the two men?
