How do you know that May Smith was born in September 1912 to an unmarried mother named Maud Mary Ellerthorne ??.....has this been passed down through the family ?
realistically - Maud gave birth to May in 1912 aged 34 - was she already married to a Mr Smith ?

just to confirm ..Maud Mary Ellithorn is 32 in 1911 census in Preston - NOT married ...

May be a long shot but there is a 'Female Smith' with mother's maiden name blank born Sept 1912 quarter in Bromsgrove 6c 611

Are you positive about the year 1912?  Sometimes the birth day and month is spot on but a year out  :)

There's a Harry H Smith born to an Elithorn in Burnley in Sep qtr 1911, maybe May's brother?

There's  a May  Davis    marrying   a  Smith  in Ashton RD  in 1928, (though   as  both  surnames aren't rare   it  may  not be the correct May)
