Cairns/Kairns - look up please./new infor.

Hi,
   I am trying to find any information (census. parish records) on Robert Cairns/Kairns, occupation mason, wife , but I know he had a daughter Nicholas Cairns/Kairns born abt 1806 in Kircudbright. Nicholas marries Baird, and has daughter Helen Baird born abt 1824 in Kirkcud.

  IGI has listing for a Nichoals Cairns born 1806 Kircudbright, Kir, Sct. with parents Robert Cairns & Mary Hanna.

 Parents Robert CAIRNS and Mary HANNA

Couldn't find a marriage for this couple though.


The problem you will have with this one is because the marriage of Nicholas took place before 1845 there will probably be no image on scotlands people for you to view so you will not be able to prove if this is the right parents that way. Perhaps if you ask someone to check the BVRI (Britih Vital Record Index) Her marriage  may be showing there and perhaps her parents too.

Are you still looking for Cairns family in Kirkcudbright?
I have the 1841 census for Kirkcudbright and have found the following living in Castle Street
CAIRNS Mary (70)
CAIRNS Agnes (40) grocer
CAIRNS Hannay 9

There is also a Cairns tombstone in Kirkcudbright graveyard which will be of interest to you.

Hello!

I am researching this particular family and am actually taking a trip from the US to Scotland this summer, partially just to visit Kirkcudbright.  I am very curious about the information you posted on the headstones from the Kirkcudbright cemetery.  I have never found a formal transcription of that cemetery and was wondering if you had access to one or if you had personally noted these.  If you have any information, I would really appreciate finding out anything that you know.  I'm hoping to visit the cemetery and take pictures of the headstones if I can find them.  I'm also interested in Bairds from Kirkcudbright if you would know anything about them.
