James & Ann Fison, Barmingham
« on: Saturday 22 March 14 18:33 GMT (UK) »
Any chance of a look-up for the following persons?:-

James Fison, who was a miller, and hence my interest died in 1806.  Could someone please confirm the date?  Age? etc

Ann Fison (who may have been James' wife) died in 1775.  Could I ask for the same info?

Immensely grateful in advance!

Hi Windy,

The Suffolk Bur. Index lists both for Barmingham;

15-12-1773 Ann Fison (w/o James)
14-11-1806 James (aged 72)
There is no other info. mentioned but there is about seven other "Fison's" recorded in Barmingham.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for this info.  Still not 100% clear if Ann was James' wife, but given his age of 39 when Ann died it seems highly likely.
Did any of the other Fison entries mention milling as a trade?

Cheers,
Windy

Hi Windy,
I have had another look in the Burial Index (ex SFHS) and none have any trade or occupations lsited
only a few notes (w/o or d/o or marr.man etc.)

Ann's entry specifically says w/o James.

Did James marry again because there are other entries like;

5-6-1790 Charles Fison s/o James & Sarah
8-4-1808 Joseph    "     of Stowmarket aged 42, mar. man s/o James & Anne late Connell sp.
23-6-1828 Shuttleworth Fison   "            "    22, s/o Late Joseph

I think James (married to Sarah) was James (married to Ann)'s son.  Otherwise James would have been 62 years old.

The connection with the Fison's of Stowmarket is interesting as they operated several mills in that town, and dealt in clover seeds (its not my area, but maybe they became the seed company Fisons?).

Thanks for your help.

Hello Windy

The Joseph FISON buried 8 Apr 1808 parents James & Anne (Late Connell sp)

FindMyPast records the marriage of a James FISON 1757 Barningham (so about right for your chap marrying if he was born c1734) in the same year & same parish Ann CORNEL(L).  Perhaps someone can check that out for you to confirm.

K

Hi Keziah,

Thanks again.  I'll have to have a look at Barningham, perhaps James' father was miller there; or perhapd James learnt the trade there?

More questions as always,

James Fison of Barningham's death notice in the Bury and Norwich Post, 19 Nov 1806 describes him as "James Fison, sen, age 72...."

Windy,
nice to hear from you again.
