1732 Marriage in Gloucester Cathedral
« on: Tuesday 01 April 14 04:45 BST (UK) »
About a month ago I posted a lookup request that, unfortunately, received no replies. Embedded in that request was a more general question that might be better presented here.

I am searching for info on my GGGGGG-Grandfather Robert FREEMAN.

What I know comes from two memorial inscriptions from Upton St.Leonards:

"Here lyeth the body of Robert Freeman Senr. of this parish, Yeoman, who departed this life Oct 7 1769, Aged 84 years.  Also William and James, Sons of Robert Freeman Junr. (by Alice, his Wife.) who died infants."

"Joan the wife of Robert Freeman died may 9th 1752 aged 57 years"

I have found a marriage at Gloucester Cathedral 13 Oct 1732 between Robertus Freeman of Upton St.Leonards, widower, and Joanna Stock of Badgeworth.

I find it surprising that their marriage wasn't in the local parish of either. Is there some significance in a cathedral marriage? Was it open to anyone, or does this indicate some influence or status?
