David Williams (c1808-c1874) living Llanbadarn Fynydd
« on: Saturday 05 April 14 04:00 BST (UK) »
Any suggestions on where these places might have been?
In 1841 Census David Williams (35 - agricultural labourer) is listed with his wife Jane (30) and four children: Sarah (9) William (7) Edward (5) and John (3). Location is given as Main House, Parish of Llanbadarn Fynydd. In 1851 Census David is located at Great Main, LF. In 1861 at Middle Main, LF. In 1871 at Little Main, LF. and his place of death in 1874 is listed as The Main, Llanbadarn Fynnyd. Obviously variations on a theme but where were they? It sounds like they are in a village - not a farm. But how do I find them?
I have looked up Llanbadarn Fynydd on Visions of Britain and old maps websites and tried to work out where they might be by neighbours on census - but still no luck. Actually I would really appreciate any help whatsoever with any non census records about David Williams and his wife Jane (nee Whilding) and their family. Especially when and where they are buried.

Probably a mis-spelling of Maens - the Welsh word for stones. On Old Maps find Upper and Lower Cochran (on A483 nth of Llanbadarnfynydd) then go due west and you'll get to Lower Maens Cottage and there's also a Maens nearby.
I have the same kind of farm names in my family very close by: Lower (Isa), Middle (Canol) and Upper (Ucha) Pabyllwyds. They were farms established by Haig (the Whiskey family) who owned the Pen Ithon Estate and lived at the Hall.
Good luck
