William was alive as of 26 Jun. 1911 when a newspaper article says he brought a lawsuit for slander and defamation on behalf of wife Melva against J.R. Gibson and wife.  April 1911 newspaper articles indicate that an affidavit was made charging Melva with assault to murder due to two shots allegedly fired at Misses Cole and Gibson and Melva furnished a bond.

The articles from April 1911 are in the San Antonio Light and Gazette, San Antonio Advocate, and Weekly Advocate from Victoria, Texas.  The June 1911 article is from the San Antonio Light.

Sometimes, women in those days claimed to be widows when really the husbands left, so it's possible he didn't die by 1915.

Have you followed the other family members forward to see if there was any further mention of William?

Yes Shelly I got marriage records for both of the daughters and father listed as William Forbes no mention of him being  deceased ...Not sure if this information is mentioned in records in US ? ...Like you did think she might have said she  was widowed ...She seems to have married 3 times

Can't seem to find William on the 1900 census ?
