Hi Alfred. I have copies of both of Joseph marriages (and a few others), I sent you a PM.

This is the second or third separate family which I've found Isabella/Mary crossovers. Just wondered if anyone else had come across the same.

Hi Heatherrr

Haven't really come across that combination with names  :-\

What were Mary/Isabella's parents' names from her marriage or death certs? I can see her 1881 entry I think, working as a factory girl and living with parents Peter and Mary Ann McGill at 118 Abercromby in Calton, Glasgow.

Struggling to find Isabella/Mary's birth, but wondered whether this was her 1871 entry. From transcript, original image would help:

(Female) Mcgill 30 Formerly Steam Loom Weaver b. Ireland
James Mcgill 12 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/VQQZ-4NY
May Mcgill 10
Helen Mcgill 5
Maria Mcgill 1 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FQWC-D23
Henry Mcgill 1 month ? https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F7MP-DV2
Address: 594 Gallowgate, Bridgeton/Glasgow

I thought this then fitted with 1881 at 118 Abercromby, Calton:

Peter McGill 43 General Dealer In Cattle b. Ireland
Mary Ann McGill 41 b. Ireland
James McGill 22 General Dealer In Cattle
Mary McGill 20
Helen McGill 15
Mariah McGill 12
Henry McGill 7...first Henry must have died https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FQJ9-YY5
Margaret McGill 5
John McGill 4
Patrick McGill 2

Thanks Monica, I'll look that over and compare with what I have. I'm sure her name was Mary and that Isabella was just a mistake. I haven't looked for her birth but I looked for her death and couldn't find anything.

Heather, I went back and added some birth links to the census entries. Still can't find Mary/May/Isabella's birth on IGI/family search. Sure it will be on SP though. They went on to have a Maria in 1869 though (sometimes happens nevertheless that names doubled up).

Her father showed as Patrick...a common variant of Peter...on some of the children's birth indexes www.whatsinaname.net/php/search.php?action=search2&search_name=peter

I tried looking on SP and couldn't find her death using any variations. I'll keep looking, thank you.

I have another Mary in my tree (who could be called Isabella). Was just wondering if it was a common mistake/name change.

Re Isabella/Mary, the original issue, not one I have ever come across and I am quite open to variants on names over the years of researching  ::) But always something new, so never exclude really...

Regarding a death, Alfred Koos mentions a possible death for her in 1893. Hopefully he can add further.

Those census seem to fit. Her parents on her marriage cert are Patrick & Mary Ann, thanks.
