Which beach is this?
« on: Thursday 01 May 14 09:13 BST (UK) »
The picture is of my dad aged about 7, c1930 and his parents on a beach on the south coast.
It is a traditional seaside postcard, which has the photographers Sunbeam Photo Ltd and a Margate address on the back.

Does anyone recognise the beach? No not the sand  ;D but maybe the metal/wooden stairs in the background?

I had a copy of this photo for many years,I have just been sent the original when an elderley relative had a clear out.Wonderful stuff!!!

Many thanks

Carol

Think you can rule out Brighton :)

lovely and sandy - those steps show it is a long way down to the beach.  Could it be Cromer, its a long way down to that one?

Thanks Xin ,but  no it's definitely a beach on the south coast, the photographers only went along the coast a little way from their base at Margate.

Margate is on the north coast of Kent (not really on the south coast Carol!!  ;) )

So possibles may be Margate itself, Westgate, Reculver, or anywhere along that coast, or maybe round to Broadstairs?

Off to see if I can find any pictures or any of them!

Thanks Liz

When I first had a copy of the pic,my dad's cousin told me it was Bournemouth, but now having received the original I know it was taken by a Margate photographer, and that they went along to nearby beaches to snap happy holidaymakers.

My dad and grandparents lived near Wembley so it would have had to have been an easy place to get to by bus or train.

May be towards Cliftonville. There were a few sets of stairs there. All, I think, have now been either replaced with more substantial ones or removed all together, after erosion made them unsafe.
