Hello everybody

Thank you all for your replies, I am just about to work my way through all the details. From what you have all found it does look as though it will fit in with what I already know, I suspected that he married in South Africa as I couldn't find a marriage anywhere in the UK and when his son was born in 1910 his occupation is given as Prison Warder.

His army papers have him as going to South Africa in 1900 and on the 30th Sep 1902 he joined the S.A.C (I think it is a "C") which I am taking to be South African Corps. Perhaps he stayed in S A until 1906 when he arrived back in Southampton and then returned to S A early in 1907. His wife,Alice could well have returned in 1909 as her baby was born in London, 1910.

Presumably she returned with her son sometime after then.

Still a little more searching to do but it is fitting in.

Thanks to all.

Have just found what is most likely Arthur's wife and child returning to South Africa in April 1910 on the SS Dunluce Castle which again fits in with what I was expecting  :)

Hi Bob here again

I have just found what is probably a Mr and Mrs A  Verrinder arriving in the UK 1927, or within 1 year from South Africa. Also around this time there is a Gertrude Verrinder arriving from South Africa, all arriving London.

Does anybody have any more details on these entries? :)

Many thanks

Hi

As Suzard has already mentioned "There is a tree".

Son George apparently dies in Durban in 1968.

Cannot help thinking that your hunting should exhaust the SA area of "essentials", before searching for possible journeys, etc..

Have you viewed the tree owned by "ecam_1"? Are you related to ecam_1?

I have seen a couple of "trees" but they don't appear to name all the children of Arthur and Alice.

As far as I can see I have no connections with "ecam_1" but I haven't actually seen/found their tree.

I do know that both Arthur and Alice were born in the Uk, I now know when they went to South Africa and I know for sure that they were back in the UK by 1933 at the latest and I know that both Arthur and Alice both died in the UK in 1961 and 1965 respectively.

From trees I have seen I believe they had 5 children but names are hidden on the trees that I have seen and I only have names of three.

My knowledge of searches in South Africa is somewhat limited but so far I haven't found births of any children in that country. Similarly a "tree" gives date of marriage in South Africa but apart from "Pretoria, Western Cape" I don't know precisely where.

Why would should they?
The tree owners may not know as much as you / have just started their genealogy hobby.

The children are not named because the tree "owner" has chosen to make them private. The link only opens to signed up members.

Bob

 . . . . . then why not contact them (after joining up) ?

They obviously have some information that (they think) is correct.
