Elizabeth Dale born about 1835 Norfolk
« on: Friday 30 May 14 15:05 BST (UK) »
I have a mysterious daughter in my tree and I can't track her down. She appears on the 1841 census in Great Yarmouth
HO107; Piece: 794; Book: 2; Folio: 20; Page: 33
She is with her parents John Dale a mariner and Mary Dale nee Tubbs, and siblings in (I think Carleton Buildings) Yarmouth. Her name is given as Elizabeth Dale born Norfolk aged 6.
Her oldest sisters were baptised in Plymouth and in Bute, obviously their mother was on board ship with her husband, a gunner. Thereafter they settled in Yarmouth where the other children were baptised.
Freereg has baptisms for them but not for Elizabeth or any other name that could be her -eg Ann Elizabeth (there's an Ann and Ann Maria  and a Mary already in the family!)  By 1851 Mary was in Harwich with 2 younger children but no sign of Elizabeth. John Dale died there in 1858.
I can't find any other records for Elizabeth. I've tried Lizzie, Bessie and Betsey but there is nothing certain.
Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Thank you both. Where did you find the marriage record sgf? -It certainly seems a possible. I could check the census record for the couple after 1863 and see where that Elizabeth was born.
She wasn't baptised in 1835 on the link you gave me avm, but I will check 34 and 36. One of her older siblings was nearly 3 when he was baptised with a younger sister.
That's a really useful resource  which I haven't seem before-a lot of my ancestors used St Nicholas for BMDs so I've bookmarked it. I also noticed that a lot of their records were damaged which may include Elizabeth's.

Found the marriage record using one of the subscription sites. Thought I would check London as found a possible sighting of Elizabeth on  1861 Census:

Estimated Birth Year:    1837
Relation:Servant
Born:Earsham, Norfolk, England

Civil Parish:St Pancras
Parish:Holy Trinity
County: Middlesex

This Elizabeth is living with William C Dale, born 1834 Camberwell and his family. Not sure if there may be some family link here.

I've checked out your record on Ancestry, sgf and found a family tree. It has a copy of the marriage certficate and  John Dale is a currier!  I agree the copy on Ancestry looked like gunner.
A pity as I thought you'd found her.
This Elizabeth Dale was from Hereford.
I thought the servant idea was possible.  Elizabeth's father was from Middlesex according to details on his muster roll so it's possible she could have gone to work for a member of his family. But the servant Elizabeth Dale was from  Earsham which is about 20 miles from Yarmouth and inland.
You're right to suggest she was probably in service in 51 and 61 it's just a matter of finding out where! Some of her siblings did move away from Yarmouth so it's possible she moved near one of them. Thank you for trying. Any more suggestions gratefully received!

A quick update on Elizabeth. She moved to Harwich with her parents and died in 1849 at the age of 14. She was buried in Harwich on 2nd October 1849.
I don't know why I kept on looking in Norfolk when her parents died in Harwich ???
I never did find a baptism record though.
Thank you to everyone who helped.
