Finding my Paternal great grand mother
« on: Friday 06 June 14 17:34 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find my maternal great grand mother and her family, her name is Elizabeth (Lizzie) Goodine Spear, as far as I know she was born May 1864 or 1865, in New Brunswick Canada, she married my great grand father Edward L. Spear in Cambridge Massachusetts. I do have some information regarding their children. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Rootschat :)

Have you found a record of the marriage? From later records it looks as though it should b c1891.

Lizzie's maiden name is rendered differently in different records - Goodine, Goodins; sometimes Goodwin, as on this record of a child's death: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NWCZ-575.

If you can tell us all you know, including any details from Lizzie's marriage or death, we can try to help.

Ah - here's the 1890 marriage, providing names for Lizzie's parents at James G. and Ellen C. Goodine:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N4SQ-KB3

Lizzie's age of 25 at marriage on 22 June 1890 would be consistent with a birth in May 1865.  She gives her birthplace as York Co., New Brunswick.

Greetings, MsJunerose!

There is a thread on Rootschat which includes Godine/Goodine of New Brunswick in the 19th century which could be worth investigating.  It was started by penninah in January 2012
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=578881.54

If you post a message on that thread, penninah should receive a notification.

Good hunting!
Philip

I think having this query moved to the Canada board would be a good idea...There are many Godin Godien Goodine, etc in York Co. New Brunswick, so no need to use an existing thread that may not be related, that can just create confusion.

The Canada census don't reveal any James/Ellen combinations

Is this the correct Eliza Spear in 1940 Mass? If so she has a sister, but I cannot read her name and the transcription does not match this spelling so I won't confuse the issue by posting what they thought it was

Please do not post another thread about the same subjects. I have notified the moderator, who might move it.   So you had a marriage, but didn't post it, now you have a death also not posted...
So just some advice as we all make the same mistakes...You were asked to post what you knew. Don't make us look for what you already know.
I also see that Elizabeth's mother was born ireland...I saw an Ellen born Ireland but she was with a Thomas...
Found it again, so just posting the link....this in no way means this could be the right person ...if the marriage info was correct...as no husband James   http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/1871/jpg/4396657_00155.jpg
Just posting what I find... in 1881 she's Hellen Goodine and the Eliz b. 1862
