What information can actually be seen at the national archives as far as bmd records are concerned. Can you see actual details or just indexes

Birth, marriage and death certificates cannot be viewed or ordered at The National Archives.

I think that the only chance you have of seeing anything anywhere other than by purchasing a certificate is  Marriages that appear in Parish registers.

The Indexes can be viewed online at FreeBMD (www.freeBMD.org.uk) - although there are gaps after 1940's.

The GRO themselves are not allowed to release or divulge any information on the certificates ::)
You have to buy a certificate! ;D
But they are only £9.25, including posting to any address in the world.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Thanks for the advice. I'm looking for a marriage certicate for my g/grandparents but have no idea what name my g/grandmother used. Have a look at my posting 'skirbeck almshouse' and all will make sense

Yes. That's the one
