Revisiting Brickwall - what happened to Frances North?
« on: Saturday 07 June 14 15:43 BST (UK) »
Hello
Today I am revisiting an old investigation, briefly referred to at the end of a previous post:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=671875.msg5170142#msg5170142
I would love to know what happened to Frances NORTH, nee OLIVER, baptised 3 February 1782 St Stephen's Church, Winsham, Somerset. She married John NORTH at St Stephen's on 31 January 1804. They had eight children: Fanny (1806-), Anne (1808-1880), John (1810-1872), Elizabeth (1811-1889), William (1815-1849), Charlotte (1818-1860), Charles (1820-) and Edmund (1823-1824).
Husband John was buried in St Stephen's churchyard on 19 September 1827, age 48, and after this I don't know what happened to Fanny, who is my GGGG Grandma.
I've posted here rather than on the Somerset board in the hope that more RootsChatters see it?
Thanks for reading this

Hi

There is a marriage 10 Oct 1833 of Fanny North to Francis Forsey, which I think is the daughter.

Plus a burial of a Fanny North 17 May 1829 Winsham, no age recorded. (source: Anc* and familysearch ) ~ another site list the same burial as Henry North aged 47, a mistake may have been made with the name and this could be her burial, the age 47 is correct with her birthyear of 1782 .  Maybe worth checking into.

Hi Mand,

You may already have all this but just in case you haven't ....the baptisms of all the children and some of their marriages are on Freereg.
John's burial is also there but couldn't see one for Frances/Fanny

Hi rolnora
Thanks for the freereg link. I have seen all the baptisms and marriages, and so I was surprised that I couldn't find Fanny's burial, it seemed most unlikely that she would have moved away from the area where all her family were after John's death, or that her burial wasn't recorded anywhere.
Hi Claire
I have also seen the burial of 'Henry' North, and thought he might have been John's brother, but haven't found out anything else about him, which supports your suggestion that there may have been a mistake in the transcription, and Henry doesn't exist! I can imagine that 'Fanny' and 'Henry' could look very similar on the original Parish records. I haven't seen the record of burial of Fanny North, so I will have a look into that. I'd love to see the original Parish record and make my own mind up about the transcription, but live a bit too far from the local records office where I assume they are. I might try asking on the Somerset board.
Thanks to you both for all your help.
