McGivney Family in Cavan
« on: Saturday 07 June 14 17:33 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I realize this is a shot in the dark, but I am searching for information on my great great grandfather Garrett McGivney, born (probably in Cavan) in 1791. He arrived in Canada in 1824. I have lots of info. after his arrival in Canada, but nothing about when or where he left Ireland. He married an Irish 'girl" Bridget McCormack; not sure if they married in Ireland or after the arrived in Canada. Most RC church records have been lost or destroyed, so I have not been able to find anything.

Do you have the record of his arrival in Canada in 1824? It might give information about his departure from Ireland. Alternatively, if it doesn't, you might be able to trace the movements of the ship, which should give you possible ports of departure.
Sorry I can't help more.
